Elm Class Year 4

Welcome to Elm Class
Our Spring Term theme is:
Eco-Life!

During the Spring term, Elm class will be exploring Eco-Life, with a focus on rivers and sustainability.  Through Science and Geography we will learn about the water cycle, physical geographical features and how humans affect the environment.  We will be creating a class art piece combining Art and D.T. techniques to show our own collage of a river, as well as learning about how others show their interpretations.  Each week we will find new clues and items in our 'Curiosity Corner' to help spark our imagination and lead us to new discoveries about our theme.

Please see the homework expectations:
Our Books this Term
To support our theme, we will be reading the fantastic books “The River," as well as "Song of the River." We will continue to develop our reading skills to dissect the great language and imagery created by the author and illustrators. In our writing, the books will inspire writing in the genres of fantasy narrative, poetry, historical stories, non-chronological reports and persuasive writing. We will continue to develop our writing skills throughout the genres with a focus on descriptive language. These books will help us discover and learn more about the rivers and those which types of creatures call the river home. This will then encourage the children to become advocates and "Eco-Warriors" who will care for the local area.

In Maths we will be securing our knowledge of the four operations and honing our skills by applying these to different concepts and problems..  We will continue to work hard to learn our multiplications and have weekly tests. Our national times tables tests take place in the Summer term.

For an overview of our learning this term, please read the parent overview below.
