During the Autumn term, Elm class will be exploring Anglo-Saxon life and legends in our history lessons with key focus on enquiry skills. In science, we will be learning about the digestive system, food chains and teeth. In geography, we will be extending our knowledge on settlements within the UK, covering counties, cities and the British Isles. We will be creating small working Anglo-Saxon catapults in DT and learning how to use colour to reflect emotion in Art. Each week we will find new clues and items in our 'Curiosity Corner' to help spark our imagination and lead us to new discoveries about our theme.
In Maths, we will be focusing on our understanding of place value and building on previous knowledge and skills in addition, subtraction and multiplication. We will be developing our problem solving skills by applying our new learning to a range of different contexts.
For an overview of our learning this term, please read the parent overview below.
Things to remember:
- PE days are now Wednesday for indoor PE and Monday for outdoor. Please ensure that the children have the correct kit for those days. Also, as the weather is getting warmer, make sure your child has sun cream and a hat in school.
Reading
Children are expected to be reading at home at least 3 times per week to support their learning. Reading Records should be brought into school every day and will be checked on a Thursday.
Times tables
Children are encouraged to continue using TimesTable Rockstars at home each week. Every child has their username and password to enable them to log in. This will be checked in school, if you have any problems logging in, please speak to the class teacher.
