Elm Class Year 4

Welcome to Elm Class
Our Summer Term Theme is:

During the Summer term, Elm class will be raiding history with our 'The Vikings' theme.  In science, we will be learning about sound and electricity; including electrical safety. In geography, we will be finding out about key geographical features on our planet, such as latitude, longitude, the equator and the tropics.  We will be refining our sketching and drawing skills, looking at form and facial features.  Each week we will find new clues and items in our 'Curiosity Corner' to help spark our imagination and lead us to new discoveries about our theme.

Our Books this Term
In English this term, we will be using the books 'How to train your dragon’ by Cressida Cowell and ‘Viking Voyagers’ by Jack Tite to inspire our writing. We will be writing a range of text types including instructions, film narratives, riddles and discussion .  We will also be using these texts to develop our comprehension skills focusing on inference and retrieval.

In Maths, we will be focusing on our practice on times tables as well as furthering our decimals, fractions and knowledge of measurements. We will be developing our problem solving skills by applying our new learning to a range of different contexts.

Children are expected to be reading at home at least 3 times per week to support their learning. Reading Records should be brought into school every day and will be checked on a Thursday.
