Elm Class Year 4

Welcome to Elm Class
Our Summer Term theme is:
Viking Invaders!

During the Summer term, Elm class will be exploring Viking life, with a focus on invasion and trading.  Through Science and  we will learn about sound and electricity. In geography, we will be looking at different areas of the UK as well as names of the counties and some major cities.  We will be creating our own Dragon head designs, in Art by looking carefully at our drawing skills and ability to show facial expressions. Our DT will link to our science topic of electricity and we will be making mechanical pulley systems.  Each week we will find new clues and items in our 'Curiosity Corner' to help spark our imagination and lead us to new discoveries about our theme.

Please see the homework expectations:
Our Books this Term
To support our theme, we will be reading the fantastic books “How to Train Your Dragon," as well as "Viking Voyagers." We will continue to develop our reading skills to dissect the great language and imagery created by the author and illustrators. In our writing, the books will inspire writing in the genres of fantasy narrative poetry, historical narrative, instructions and discussion writing. We will continue to develop our writing skills throughout the genres with a focus on descriptive language. These books will help us discover and learn more about the Vikings and how they lived their daily lives. This will then support the children with their understanding in this area of history.

In Maths we will be securing our knowledge of the four operations and honing our skills by applying these to different concepts and problems..  We will continue to work hard to learn our multiplications and have weekly tests. Our national times tables tests take place in the Summer term.

For an overview of our learning this term, please read the parent overview below.
